Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
Failure analysis and material engineering is unimaginable without SEM.
The SEM, equipped with high and low vacuum, gives us the opportunity to look
into the very small details of various parts and materials. Fracture surfaces
can be topographically visualized; fibre structures can be seen, micro
porosities can be detected, and lot’s more.
With the Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX or EDS) e.g. small inclusions
can be chemically fingerprinted and element mapping shows the element
distribution in an area.
